At the January 10, 2020 General Business Meeting, the Commission approved five-year charter school contracts with conditions to the following charter schools:

  • Kona Pacific Public Charter School
  • Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School
  • Ka Waihona o ka Naʻauao Public Charter School
  • Hakipuʻu Learning Center

Here are the conditions for each school:

Kona Pacific Public Charter School must provide an executed, AG-approved lease for the instructional site no later than May 31, 2020, adhere to the approved repayment schedule and the school shall be at or above the complex area proficiency rates in ELA, Math and Science at the end of the fourth year contract as reported in the states accountability report.

Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School must provide an executed, AG-approved lease for the instructional site no later than May 31, 2020, and the school shall hire a permanent school administrator with academic leadership qualifications and experience. The school shall be at or exceeding the complex area (like demographic to be determined) proficiency rates in ELA, Math and Science at the end of the fourth year contract. If this condition is not met, the school shall surrender its charter at the end of the contract term (fifth year)

Starting July 1, 2020, Ka Waihona o ka Naʻauao Public Charter School governing board members shall go through training approved by the Commission and inclusive of third party evaluation conducted no later than June 15th. The school’s current blended program shall meet the Commission’s current online blended guidelines and shall continue for the first year of its new contract and shall not expand beyond its current approved enrollment (100 students in grades kindergarten through eight); provided that the school shall implement its own developed curriculum starting in the second year of its new contract. Additionally, the school shall not enroll new students into its blended program until all students on their waitlist are offered priority enrollment into the blended program. The school shall develop and collect measures of success for their essential terms.

Hakipuʻu Learning Center must provide an executed, AG-approved leases/agreements and all required permits for instructional sites listed in the renewal application; no later than May 31, 2020. Then starting July 1, 2020, the governing board shall go through training approved by the Commission and inclusive of third party evaluation conducted no later than June 15, 2021. The school shall be no lower than 10 percentage points of the complex area (like demographic) proficiency rates in ELA, Math, and Science at the end of the fourth year of the contract, as reported in the state’s accountability report. Should the school not meet this condition, the school shall surrender its charter at the end of the contract term (fifth year).
