For Families & Community
Aloha and welcome! This page has been created for families who have children enrolled in a charter school and community members who are interested in learning more about our charter schools or enrolling their child in a public charter school.
Hawaiʻi charter schools are tuition-free public schools of choice open to all, serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Select charter schools offer high-quality Pre-K programs. There are 37 charter schools in Hawaiʻi serving more than 12,000 students on five islands; Hawaiʻi Island, Kauaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu.
Finding the right charter school for your child is important. No two charter schools are the same and they each offer a different learning environment; some offer blended learning, others focus on Hawaiian language immersion or arts integration, and yet others offer project based learning or a Waldorf model of learning.
Knowing your child’s learning style and needs will help you narrow your search for the right school. Does he/she love the arts or science, enjoy smaller classroom sizes, want to learn the Hawaiian language, or more of an independent learner? Parents are encouraged to research schools by visiting their website, calling the schools for more information, reading their charter contracts and taking a look at their Strive HI school level results.
Although each charter school has a unique mission and vision to meet the academic needs of their community, all public charter schools must demonstrate academic success.
Here you will find a list of all charter schools authorized by the Commission with information on the grades they serve, locations, enrollment count, charter contracts, Strive HI academic performance reports, and contact information. You will also find helpful information on charter school governing boards.
